FRIENDSHIP TREE I DAINAVA

Friendship Tree is a sculpture created by a professional blacksmith Benediktas Mikuckis and Dainava residents to promote community and creativity. The idea for this sculpture came from people's stories about a tree that fell in one of the courtyards of the Dainava district after a severe storm. The fallen tree became the subject of discussion in the yard's neighbors, encouraging them to hear each other and find a common solution to what to do with the "broken" yard symbol. Based on this word-of-mouth local history, it was decided to create an object that would bring together people living nearby for a common purpose and work together to “grow” a community tree reflecting the growing and expanding Dainava community, while emphasizing the individual contribution of each member. After consulting with the artist, it was decided to create a symbolic "Tree of Friendship" out of metal, in the pages of which the locals could engrave their own symbols, initials or words.
