VEGETATIVE TEXTILES

This installation represents an experimental laboratory, in which the process of artistic research, the interaction of created sustainable surfaces and light, and the aesthetic peculiarity of new material surfaces are conveyed on specially illuminated table surfaces. Vegetative textiles exposition represents an experimental journey through the search for new materiality. This journey begins with an experimental laboratory where small experiments grow into larger discoveries. This part of the exposition was exhibited in the gallery “Meno Parkas” in the exhibition “Between Two / Contemplations” 2022 April 29th - May 29th. This exhibition presented the textile works of already distinguished as well as some newly emerging Lithuanian and Japanese artists. Also „Vegetative textiles“ exposition is exhibited at the 10th Biennale of Lithuanian Textile Art in gallery „Arka“, the exhibition will be open until September 24th

Surfaces and light interaction.

At the beginning of the exposition, a bioplastics production laboratory is presented, implemented using different types of algae and other ingredients, based on different recipes. During the experiments, various surfaces were created, which were characterized by different shades, flexibility, strength, transparency and gloss. Indrė Spitrytė, 2022.

The exposition shows SCOBY growing in fruit, green, matcha tea and naturally painted surfaces exhibited in petri dishes. I have noticed that the surfaces have the property of absorbing the smell and color of the liquid in which it grows, that changes during the drying stage and in this way the original color nuances and textures appear. The last part of this exposition represents surfaces that were created by using transparent bioplastics and bioplastics with tomato peels. From which a collection of artistic gloves representing a connection with different generations was made. The glove details were hand-sewn with natural linen thread. The exposition was also complemented by a growing tomato that takes back to childhood memories. Indrė Spitrytė, 2022.
