VEGETATIVE TEXTILES
This is an ongoing project that began with the SCOBY, a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast that feeds on sugar, polyphenols, and other nutrients dissolved in tea. During the fermentation process, bacteria of the genus Komagataeibacter form a floating film of biocellulose on the surface of the tea. Vegetative textiles is a project that represents an experimental journey through the search for new materiality. This journey begins in the laboratory of experiments, where small experiments grow into bigger discoveries. With the help of microorganisms, a collection of personal textiles is created, which is inspired by childhood memories, the connection with different generations. In cooperation with microorganisms, new textile surfaces are created.
